1949 Band Contest

Nine bands in Saskatchewan and Montana have already signified interest in a proposed band contest being considered by the Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce, officials said today.

The chamber’s band committee, headed by EJ Hemming, sent out letters to various bands on the prairies and in the northern states seeking to determine if there was any interest in such a contest.

Although they hope for a minimum of 20 entries, officials were pleased at the response so far to the proposal. If plans materialize, the band contest, which is hoped will become an annual affair, will be held in September.

Expressions of willingness to compete in a band contest have been received from Regina, Humboldt, Riverhurst, Malta, Montana, North Battleford, Swift Current, and Saskatoon bands as well as a sea cadet bugle band in Regina, and the St Andrew’s Society pipe band in Moose Jaw.

Apparently the initial planned dates of the festival were in September, not May, as we are so accustomed.
