1967: Pied Piper Stops Traffic

Bobby Gimby stopped traffic today. And no wonder. Wearing his Pied Piper’s cloak and brandishing his bejewelled trumpet, symbol of leadership to thousands of Canadian children, the composer of the centennial song, “Ca-na-da”, planted himself firmly in the middle of Main and Fairford streets and brought traffic to a standstill. Gimby is in Moose Jaw as guest artist at the 18th annual Kinsmen International Band Festival.

We were thrilled in 1967, our centennial year, to welcome Bobby Gimby, composer of “Ca-na-da”, the official song of Canada’s 100th birthday.
