1960s: Baton Judge Farm Lass From Iowa
Joyce Rice, national championship baton twirler will adjudicate all baton classes at the Kinsmen International Band festival.
An Iowa farm girl, Miss Rice has proven her ability in the biggest contests and shows throughout the United States and Europe. She has travelled approximately 500,000 miles, demonstrating her ability at professional football games, fairs, television shows, international conventions. In the twirling field she has won All-American awards, best dressed Awards and the coveted national Twirling championship.
Miss Rice is the only twirler to receive an expense-free four year college scholarship for twirling. During college at Iowa State, she was chosen to tour Europe as feature twirler with the USA band.
She performs with one baton, hoop baton, two batons, three batons, four batons, flag batons and fire batons.
In the 60s baton twirlers could be adjudicated at our festival!
