SASKATOON COMMUNITY WIND ENSEMBLE

On Monday evenings from September to May, over 125 people come out to rehearse and perform in the five groups that make up The Saskatoon Community Bands, many participating in more than one group.  These groups include: Beginner Band; The 6:30 Experience, (a “next step” following Beginner Band which also includes a jazz band component); Concert Band (more advanced); Jazz Band (for those with more experience, but not limited to standard jazz band instrumentation); Wind Ensemble (the most advanced of the groups). The Saskatoon Community Bands were formed in 1982 by Peter England as the Holy Cross Adult Community Bands. After conducting the Wind Ensemble for 40 years, Peter stepped off the podium into the role of Program Director, though he continues to play the bassoon with the Wind Ensemble and direct the Beginner Band. In the fall of 2023 Nick Fanner stepped onto the podium to conduct the Wind Ensemble, (also leading The 6:30 Experience). Doug Gilmour rounds out the conducting team, leading the Jazz Band and Concert Band.  The Saskatoon Community Bands is a non-profit charitable organization registered in Saskatchewan.  We are grateful for the support of Saskatchewan Lotteries through the Saskatchewan Band Association.  The Wind Ensemble is honoured and delighted to have this opportunity to share its music with the aspiring student musicians participating in the 2025 Moose Jaw Band & Choral Festival.
